Celebrating Your Veteran Families this Independence Day

As Independence Day approaches and celebrating our nation is even closer to the forefront, senior living communities and home care agencies have a unique opportunity to help show older adult veterans the support they deserve by educating about VA benefits that are available to them, ultimately easing the financial burden of their senior care expenses.

The U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs calculated in 2021 that there were approximately 189,800 wartime veterans and 139,800 surviving spouses receiving the Aid and Attendance Pension. In comparison, the U.S. Census Bureau estimated in 2018 that there were 1.79 million living veterans of the Korean War and WWII alone – this number doesn’t include masses of potentially eligible Vietnam Veterans and every surviving spouse of all three war time periods. This means that many more veteran families can receive additional VA income to navigate their golden years.

There are many ways to help educate your staff on VA benefits and the assistance it can provide financially to families.  Here are some ideas:educating on veterans benefits

Benefits of educating veterans on VA pension benefits:

  • Help families move loved ones into your community faster.
  • Worry less about on-time payments.
  • Show appreciation of their service to our country.
  • Increase positive outlook and reviews.

It takes so little time to share veteran benefits, but the impact can be massive. It can mean the difference between a family moving into assisted living or receiving the home care they need but previously were unable to afford. It can also unburden a son or daughter from the high cost of senior care. You can have more of an impact than you think just by sharing this crucial information.

“We recently hosted an educational webinar on financing senior care, VA Benefits, and utilizing other resources to help pay for senior living. As a direct result of that event, families saw our communities as a resource for their transition and we captured multiple move-ins!”

Educating current and prospective families about VA benefits can help eligible veterans and their families more easily afford your community or home care service. Beyond that, families will be grateful for the support and encouragement you can provide to help them with the benefits they earned through their service to our country.

If you’re interested in sharing information with your current or prospective residents, our experts would be happy to host a joint educational webinar, send pamphlets about VA benefits or show you how residents can apply to receive funds towards their monthly payments.
